Instructor: Michele Brody
Michele Brody received her BA from Sarah Lawrence College in 1989 and an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1994. Utilizing her strong background in liberal arts, she creates site specific, mixed media, installations and works of public art that are generated by the history, culture, environment, and architecture of a wide range of exhibition spaces. While living and working in such places as France, Costa Rica, California, the Midwest, Germany, and her home of New York, her art career has developed into a process of working in collaboration with each new community as a means towards developing an interpretation of the sense of a place as an outsider looking in.

Artists-in- Education Grants for NJ Schools and Artists Now Available
State Arts Council and its Partners Announce Grants Program
(Trenton, NJ) Guidelines and application forms are available for grants through the State Arts Council’s Artists in Education (AIE) Program to help ensure the arts are a basic part of a high-quality education for all New Jersey students. Since 1972, and more recently in collaboration with its AIE partners, Young Audiences and Arts Horizons, the Council has been pairing highly qualified professional artists with New Jersey schools and communities for long-term residencies (20 days) that provide students with hands-on experiences that shape and support their education through a variety of art forms.
Residencies are offered in all grade levels and focus on the processes of creating work in a specific arts discipline, including the skills, techniques and concepts of that specific art form. Professional artists work in collaboration with classroom teachers to create substantial and sequential arts programs that help schools meet the Core Curriculum Content Standards and help students hone critical skills that prepare them for the 21st Century. Research shows that young people involved in the arts have higher test scores, increased self-esteem, a developed sense of imagination and creativity, and a strengthened ability to innovate and solve problems.
All NJ public and private elementary and secondary schools in all districts are eligible to apply for a residency grant. The deadline for schools to apply is Friday, March 4, 2011. To learn more, please contact Shelley Benaroya, Arts Education Administrator, at email@example.com or 609.243.9000 x202 or visit www.njaie.org. All professional practicing artists, or artist companies or teams in all disciplines are eligible to apply to be accepted onto the Artist Roster and available to conduct in-school and after-school residencies. Ideally, teachers, schools and art administrators, site coordinators and artists should use both the AIE Guidelines and this AIE Handbook side by side, first while developing their residency proposals and then as instructional support throughout the entire residency process.
