Meet Our 2011 Gala Honorees

JOSHUA BELL – HONOREE

The Paul Newman Award for Services to the Arts and Children

Joshua Bell has enchanted audiences worldwide with his breathtaking virtuosity and tone of rare beauty, earning him the title “classical music superstar.” An Avery Fisher Prize Recipient and Musical America 2010 Instrumentalist of the Year, Bell came to national attention at age 14 in his debut with Riccardo Muti and the Philadelphia Orchestra. Today he is equally at home as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestra leader. Recently Bell was named Music Director of the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields in London. In between recording and performances, Bell has made it a priority to meet with children to introduce, share and encourage an appreciation of classical music.

BRIAN DUPERREAULT – HONOREE

THE CELESTE HOLM HUMANITARIAN AWARD

Brian Duperreault is President and Chief Executive Officer of Marsh & McLennan Companies, Inc., the premier global professional services firm providing advice and solutions in the areas of risk, insurance, strategy and human capital.

Mr. Duperreault is a respected insurance industry veteran who, over the span of his nearly 40 year career, has served in top leadership roles at several of the industry’s most prominent firms. His humanitarian efforts include serving as Chairman for the Centre on Philanthropy between the years of 2005-2010. He has also served as the Chairman on the Council Partners (Bermuda). Mr. Duperreault is the founder of the Duperreault Fellowship which was established to further the prevention and treatment of drug and alcohol abuse.

CELESTE HOLM – HONOREE

THE ARTS HORIZONS’ OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

Celeste Holm, the Academy Award winning actress of stage and screen has dedicated her entire life to the arts – in front of audiences as well as behind the scenes. Ms. Holm is known for her Academy Award-winning performance in Gentleman’s Agreement as well as for her Oscar-nominated performances in Come to the Stable and All About Eve. Ms. Holm has served on the governing board of the Mental Health Association, as Chairperson of the New Jersey Film Commission and is a board member of The Actors’ Fund. As Board Chairman for Arts Horizons, she has promoted arts education for all children. After sixteen years of service, she now serves as Chairman Emeritus, continuing to help transform lives through the power of the arts. Under her leadership, the 33-year old organization has become one of the largest providers of arts in education in the region, touching the lives of more than 200,000 children each year. It is because of her lifetime of participating and advocating for the arts, that she is acknowledged as a humanitarian, champion and legend.
